County to pay Blue Mountain Wildlife $16,678 to board seized roosters

Paul Wolpertin of the sheriff's office explained that after a December investigation the county seized about 30 fighting roosters and arranged temporary care with Blue Mountain Wildlife while legal ownership was adjudicated.
Wolpertin said Blue Mountain Wildlife boarded the birds for roughly two months and incurred additional costs for treatment, euthanasia for injured birds, and supplies. After negotiating a boarding fee of $10 per bird per day and accounting for other incurred costs, the sheriff's office presented an invoice that totaled $16,678.34 and requested board approval to pay Blue Mountain Wildlife.
Commissioners discussed options for recovering costs through criminal restitution and whether to place liens on property; Wolpertin said the district attorney's office had been notified and asked to pursue restitution in the prosecution. A motion to approve the payment was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.
