Champaign County panel approves rezoning for Premier Cooperative facility in Dewey

The rezoning request, filed by Premier Cooperative Inc., covers four tracts in the west half of Section 34 in East Bend Township and was presented to the committee as a straightforward map amendment. County staff said the request had a unanimous recommendation from the Zoning Board of Appeals. "This is a unanimous recommendation from the ZBA," a county staff member said during the discussion.
Committee members said the change consolidates land under a single designation and aligns with prior zoning decisions that already applied I-1 to the western portion of the site. Staff noted existing stormwater policy will govern runoff and board members observed the change should move some traffic off Second Street. Petitioners were present for questions but offered no additional comment during the meeting.
A motion to recommend approval was made and seconded; the committee voted in favor and the measure will proceed to the county board for a final decision.
