Wagoner County honors retiring reserve deputy Jay Ketron

Sheriff Chris Elliott used the Feb. 20 Wagoner County commissioners meeting to recognize Reserve Deputy Jay Ketron, who is retiring from reserve duty after years of service.
Elliott summarized Ketron’s service history, saying Ketron began serving as a reserve deputy in Wagoner County in 2016 and previously worked in Tulsa as a reserve. Elliott noted Ketron’s administrative work conducting background checks, his role running the sheriff’s marine program and advanced certifications that had him acting as a supervisor on some responses.
"Jay is a great American. He's a great public servant, and I'm proud to call him my friend," Elliott said while presenting Ketron with a plaque. Ketron confirmed his long tenure in law enforcement, noting training completed in 1988 and earlier assignments in Tulsa.
Elliott told commissioners Ketron will retire from reserve status but is expected to continue to assist occasionally as a volunteer. The board made no formal vote on the recognition; it was a ceremonial item on the agenda.
