Sudbury parents press for formal gender‑identity support policy; DEI Commission agrees to review

Parents and other community members urged the Sudbury DEI Commission on Tuesday to back a school district gender identity support policy that would add clear procedures for students, age‑appropriate curriculum and staff training to protect transgender, nonbinary and gender‑nonconforming students.

The request came from Colleen (parent and community member) and Amanda Letts (parent and community member), who described a patchwork of reactive responses in Sudbury Public Schools and said a formal policy would create consistent procedures and proactive education across grades. Colleen said, "The policy is also meant to support those kids who are coming first." Amanda added, "It is really scary. It's scary to not know how things are gonna be handled because there's no public statement."

The commission did not take a formal vote on the policy at the meeting.
