Commission authorizes negotiations and release of property appraisal to owner
Summary

After a closed executive session to discuss an appraisal and a possible purchase offer on a parcel, Fayette County commissioners voted to authorize release of the appraisal to the property owner contemporaneously with the county’s bid and to authorize the county attorney (or named negotiator) to enter negotiations based on the values discussed in executive session.
The commission met in executive session to discuss an appraisal and possible purchase offer related to a property under consideration; the meeting record stated the subject as contract negotiations and appraisal review. Commissioners said the county’s bid amount will remain confidential unless the commission decides to purchase. Commissioner Cade moved to release the appraisal to the property owner at the time the county’s lawyer submits a bid; another commissioner moved to authorize negotiations based on the discussed values. Both motions were seconded and approved by verbal vote during the open session after the executive session.
Commissioners directed county legal and administrative staff to proceed with negotiations consistent with the values discussed in executive session and to report back to the full commission if and when a purchase decision is reached.
