EDA introduces Leo Ekogiovi as new workforce development manager

Portsmouth EDA staff introduced Leo Ekogiovi as the agency’s new manager of workforce development, effective Feb. 3. Ekogiovi described experience in corrections and community engagement and said he will assess and relaunch employment-assistance programming for residents.
The Portsmouth Economic Development Authority introduced Leo Ekogiovi as its new manager of workforce development at the Feb. 18 meeting. Staff said Ekogiovi joined the office effective Feb. 3.
“Good morning, everybody. I am pleased to join what is already an assembled meeting. I hope I live up to what I’ve observed so far,” Ekogiovi said during a brief introduction. He described prior work in corrections and community engagement and said he previously served as a community engagement business developer for a justice-related department.
Staff said Ekogiovi has already begun assessing existing programs and will assist in relaunching workforce-assistance efforts next year to help residents connect with employers and training. An EDA staff member added that Ekogiovi had “dived right in” and was reassessing programs with an eye toward relaunching services and new assistance offerings for residents.
No formal action was required or taken for the staff appointment during the public meeting; staff said onboarding began Feb. 3 and that Ekogiovi will report back on program design in future meetings.
