Planning commission recommends rezoning for Motivate Martial Arts at Highway 11 site

The Walton County Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of a rezoning request to allow a martial arts studio at a parcel on Highway 11, at the intersection with Mountain Creek Church Road.
Applicant Jeremy White, owner of Motivate Martial Arts, told the commission his current school is outgrowing its space and that the proposed facility would allow class sizes of 40 to 70 students and include after-school programming that buses students from local elementary schools. “We are looking to expand, to better serve new and existing members,” White said.
A supporter representing the property owner said the location fits the Highway 11 corridor and called the business “a good wholesome business.” No members of the public identified opposition during the hearing. Planning commissioners had no substantive land-use objections on the record and voted to forward a recommendation of approval to the Walton County Board of Commissioners.
The applicant told commissioners the new site would have approximately 48 parking spaces and would continue current after-school pickup arrangements with Monroe-area schools. The recommendation will be taken up by the Board of Commissioners at its next meeting.
