Department heads gave routine monthly reports to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on March 4 covering finance, water treatment, parks and recreation and library programs.
Danielle from the finance department presented year‑to‑date financial statements through Jan. 31, 2025. She reported that general fund expenditures exceeded revenue by about $4,000,000 year‑to‑date but that the city remained under budget by about $5,000,000 compared with the prior year period. Local sales tax was $250,000 higher than the same period last year. Danielle said the general fund cash balance was $32,000,000 and the water‑sewer fund balance was $14,500,000 as of the January reporting date; she noted property‑tax receipts were at about 90 percent and that some receipts posted after Jan. 31 would be reflected in later reports.
Danny Campbell, representing the water treatment plant, described progress on a pump‑upgrade project and polymer system installation. He said a variable‑frequency drive (VFD) for high‑service pump No. 2 has been installed and tested and that coupling the motor to the pump remains to be completed; another VFD (No. 5) was being worked on and was expected to be finished the following day. Campbell said contractors and the plant maintenance manager installed a new polymer system that is operating.
Parks and Recreation Director David McGowan reported department help‑desk activity and promoted upcoming community events: a public bird‑feeder workshop on March 7 at the multipurpose building with 21 participants currently signed up and a Park and Rec Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for March 17 at 5 p.m.
Library Manager Donna Bebau described Read Across America week programming and upcoming children's events, including a library presentation tied to Dr. Seuss celebrations and a Buford's Little Theater production, "Dragons Love Tacos," on April 2 at 10 a.m. Bebau thanked board members for their support of library programs.
No departmental votes or new policy adoptions were taken during these reports; the items were presented for board information and planning.
