Sen. Chip Curry, presiding, opened a public hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on Housing of the Maine Legislature and outlined the committee’s schedule and plan for the day, including a list of legislative documents to be heard and which items were reassigned to other committees.
The committee announced it would start with LD 427, proceed to LD 629, and noted that LD 581 and LD 651 had been referred to another committee and their public hearings were canceled. The committee said LD 659 and LD 678 were on the public hearing list and that work sessions would follow once the public testimony portion concluded. Committee members explained that they would “stay on housing” for interconnected housing-related bills and that analysts who support the committee split duties between economic development and housing and would alternate as needed.
Committee leadership also listed a sequence of LDs they planned to consider in work sessions, including a series of housing-related bills referenced by number (LD 445, LD 100, LD 601, LD 5406, LD 416, LD 413, LD 271, LD 2702, LD 1905, LD 2707). The presiding senator emphasized the schedule was subject to change and that the start time for work sessions might shift depending on how quickly testimony proceeded.
The hearing invitation language stated the purpose was to receive public testimony for or against pending legislation on the committee’s agenda and that those present who wished to speak could do so during the public testimony portion of the hearing.
