At the Feb. 10, 2025 meeting the Chehalis City Council completed special business to fill the mayor pro tem vacancy and to introduce a newly appointed council member.
The mayor opened nominations for mayor pro tem. The mayor nominated Councilor Kate McDowell; the nomination was seconded and council voted in favor, confirming McDowell as mayor pro tem. The meeting record shows the motion passed by voice vote.
Council members and the mayor discussed committee assignments for the newly appointed council member. The mayor listed standing committees and boards and invited the new member to choose from them, offering first option on committees that had been held by the departed council member. The committees named during the discussion included the 9-1-1 dispatch committee, beautification, Chehalis Parks, growth management, the council parking committee, the fire consolidation committee, and the board of volunteer firefighters and reserve officers (with a note the mayor would appoint Kate to that board because she had previously expressed interest). The mayor and council indicated that unless someone else volunteered to switch seats the mayor’s proposed assignments would stand.
The council then moved on to the consent calendar and other business.
