Commission approves replacement of front door and porch columns at 603 Cabell

The Historic Preservation Commission approved homeowner Corey Schrader’s application to replace the front door and to replicate original half-columns on the front porch at 603 Cabell St.
Schrader told the commission the existing front door is “a foot too narrow and 8 inches too short” and that historical evidence suggested the original entry was effectively two narrow doors. He proposed a single, custom wood door about 48 inches wide, matching the style of the existing back door, and four new wood porch columns sized and styled to replicate the remaining historic half-columns. Schrader said the new door will be painted and custom-fabricated by Bailey Spencer (Michael Pearl was named as the fabricator).
A commissioner moved to approve the submitted application; the motion was seconded and passed on an oral “aye” vote.
Schrader confirmed he will coordinate final paint colors with staff once exterior repainting is scheduled in warmer weather.
