Safe-parking organizers tell council insurance costs slow rollout; churches willing but need funding

Howard said six churches have volunteered parking lots but insurance has been the biggest obstacle. She told the council the best option identified so far requires each participating church to hold an annual policy that costs about $2,200, meaning a roughly $13,000 insurance expense to support six host sites. Howard said the group will meet with the churches in March to explore options and possible funding sources.
She also said the Collaborative is working with McKinney-Vento counselors from both the Chehalis and Centralia school districts and that the program would prioritize families with children. Howard asked the council and community for support and said the group would host a bingo fundraiser March 24 from 5–8 p.m. at the Juice Box to raise money for Sholem Village duplexes.
