Camas council adopts resolution supporting mill cleanup process

The Camas City Council voted on Feb. 18, 2025, to adopt Resolution 25-002 supporting the Department of Ecology’s agreed order and the remedial investigation work plan development process for the former mill property.
Mayor Hogan introduced the resolution during the meeting; Councilmember Berg moved to adopt it and the council approved the measure in a recorded voice vote. The resolution expresses the council’s support for the remediation process as described in the agreed order and the development of a remedial investigation work plan between state regulators and the mill operator.
Supporters, including members of the public who spoke during public comment, urged the council to include the mill property in planning for future redevelopment and to consider a “Mill District” approach that could reduce pressure on historic downtown and expand the city’s tax base. Randall Freeman, a Camas resident, told the council: “It’s time to create the Camas Mill District.”
The resolution will be part of the city’s formal record supporting the regulatory cleanup process led by the Department of Ecology and involving Georgia-Pacific Consumer Operations. The council recorded the motion and carried the vote; the resolution was read by title at the meeting and then adopted.
