Representatives from the American Red Cross’ Greater Shenandoah Valley chapter asked the commission to declare March 2025 as Red Cross Month, to consider naming a Hardy County representative to the chapter board, and to help recruit additional consistent blood‑drive sponsors in the county.
Josh Mongold, a volunteer and executive chair for the Shenandoah Valley chapter, described the chapter’s footprint (11 counties across West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia) and recent activity. He said disasters and blood needs have grown: the chapter’s region collected more than 16,000 units of blood last year, he said, and the local Hardy County drives ran 15 events in 2024 that produced 377 units.
Lynn, the chapter’s donor recruitment account manager, told commissioners that Hardy County could support another regularly scheduled blood drive and asked for locations willing to host a drive on a 56‑ to 70‑day rotation. Mongold also asked for a Hardy County representative on the chapter board so the county has a formal point of liaison.
A commissioner moved to adopt a proclamation recognizing March as Red Cross Month; the motion was properly moved and seconded and the commission approved the proclamation. Mongold said he would leave contact information and remain after the meeting to exchange details with staff.
