A staff member said departmental operating budgets are requested by March 28 so the finance office can compile combined projections; a full-day budget workshop for department heads and commissioners is planned for April 10 (staff said the workshop will be hosted in person with remote access available). Staff explained they will supply per-person detail for wage and benefit lines and work with departments on revenue estimates ahead of the budget submission.
Commissioners were also asked to sign a letter in support of congressionally directed spending for FY2026 projects; staff said the deadline to submit the county’s request was the next day. The request and supporting materials were circulated to commissioners and staff prior to the meeting for signature; staff said no formal board vote was required to sign the letter.
On housing and grant work, staff described a CDFA (Community Development Finance Agency) on-site visit for a proposed Kensington supportive-housing project that seeks approximately $750,000 in funding. Staff said five applications were competing in the category and that the county’s application was for supportive housing tied to a rehabilitated property; staff said partial funding would still be valuable even if the full request is not awarded. The CDFA advisory-board decision meeting was noted for April 3.
Staff also summarized federal and state funding concerns for victim-witness and other service agencies, noting the federal VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) funding landscape has shifted and some local providers may need to apply more frequently or rely on alternate state funding streams in FY2026.
