Council approves some reappointments, postpones others for zoning and planning panels

The council reappointed several members to the building and standards commission and to the Park & Downtown Improvement Corporation, but postponed zoning board of adjustment and planning commission appointments for follow-up.
City Secretary Don Stahl summarized multiple board and commission rosters March 4 and council took mixed action on appointments.
Stahl told council that Dina Boyd left the zoning board of adjustments (ZBA) roster and that the ZBA appointment falls under Councilmember Phil Robinson’s oversight. Councilman Bill (speaker named later as Phil Robinson) moved to postpone the zoning board of adjustments appointments; the motion (moved by Phil Robinson; second by Donna Renee Anderson) carried by unanimous voice vote of those present.
On the building and standards commission, Stahl said two positions needed replacement and several incumbents sought reappointment. Phil Robinson moved to reappoint Stephen Austin, Hope Covington, Troy Trollinger, Gary Weems and Brian Thayer and to appoint Jay Cheney. Mayor Ronnie Velasquez seconded the motion; the council approved the appointments unanimously.
Stahl also presented the planning and zoning commission roster and noted one vacancy after Randy Voigt left. Mayor Ronnie Velasquez moved to postpone planning and zoning appointment and reappointment action; Phil Robinson seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Council reappointed J.C. Jackson to the Park and Downtown Improvement Corporation; the motion was moved by Phil Robinson and seconded by Donna Renee Anderson and passed unanimously.
Ending: Council instructed staff to reach out to newly reappointed building and standards members about training and to advertise openings for other boards. The postponed appointments will return to a future agenda for further consideration.
