Parma board accepts Superintendent Dr. Smilak’s resignation; community member offers public praise

The Parma City Board of Education accepted the administrative resignation of Superintendent Dr. Smilak under Resolution 2025-03-112 at its March 6 meeting.
During public participation, community member Tammy Sebastian addressed the board to thank Smilak for his leadership. “Throughout his tenure, Dr. Smilak has always been willing to put himself out there even in the most challenging situations,” Sebastian said. She added that his “unwavering passion for the success of our students and our schools in Parma City School District” had been meaningful to many families.
Board members moved and seconded the resolution as part of a human-resources consent group. After the roll call, the board approved Resolution 2025-03-112; the clerk recorded the motion and the board announced the measure as approved.
Board members and the superintendent briefly exchanged acknowledgements after the vote; the superintendent said he would reserve further comments until later in the summer.
The resignation was included in a bundle of human-resources items the board approved that evening, which also contained retirements and confirmations of appointments.
