Acting Director of Public Works and Utilities Phil Williams presented a proposed interlocal agreement on March 4 that would sell five surplus Edmonds police interceptor vehicles to the City of Marysville for $82,000 each, subject to a council public hearing and Marysville approval.
Williams said the vehicles were purchased some years ago and later put into limited service; staff recently identified five units available for surplus. He described two options under state law: negotiate a direct sale to another city or sell at public auction. He added that state law requires a public hearing when surplus equipment is valued over $50,000.
Williams told the council that after documents are executed the city will hold the required public hearing and then the council could decide whether to authorize the mayor to sign the interlocal agreement; Williams said Marysville officials are “looking very much forward to getting access to these vehicles.”
Council members asked procedural questions about timing and fleet impacts. Council member Olson suggested hearing public comment before authorizing signature; Williams said the hearing will be placed on the council calendar for the eleventh. Council member Dash asked about replacement timing for other vehicles; Williams said some replacements are already scheduled in future procurement plans.
No council action occurred on March 4; staff will hold the public hearing and return with an authorization request if appropriate.
