House passes bill clarifying public-record fees county clerks may charge

The Oregon House on March 7 approved House Bill 3385, a measure that clarifies which statutory fee schedule applies when county clerks respond to public-records requests.
Representative Cross told colleagues the bill reconciles two conflicting statutes—cited in floor remarks as O.R.S. 205.323 and O.R.S. 192.325—so that county clerks and members of the public have a single, clear standard for charges associated with records requests.
“By bringing these two conflicting statutes into line we provide clarity for county clerks statewide,” Cross said, urging a yes vote. The sponsor said the bill had unanimous support from the House Rules Committee and that the change would remove ambiguity for the public.
There was no substantive floor debate recorded before the clerk said H.B. 33 85 had received the constitutional majority and was declared passed.
