Lake Forest Park’s Tree Board agreed to move forward with a weatherproof vinyl banner and small promotional materials for the city’s Green Fair on Saturday, March 29 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.). The board discussed display options, volunteer coverage and interactive engagement ideas such as sticker polls and trivia cards to collect visitor feedback.
Board member Victoria Coutos reviewed design options and described two main approaches: a reusable table runner for flexibility or a vinyl banner for durability and outdoor use. Coutos said she had prepared a design and will seek a high-resolution city logo from staff for final artwork. “I can get that to you by tomorrow or Friday,” Elizabeth (city staff) said when asked for the logo asset.
Members tested several approaches for table interaction. Ideas discussed included a poster board polling visitors about which tree benefits matter most (wildlife habitat, stormwater control, carbon capture, temperature moderation, view screening and property-value effects), a two-truths-and-a-lie trivia game, and stickers (one per correct answer) to hand out as a small prize. Richard Saunders and others volunteered to create trivia items and draft copy; board members proposed having one or two laminated quiz sheets available at the table to control distribution.
The board discussed logistics for affixing a vinyl banner to event tables and recommended grommets and rope ties, or command-style hooks if taping is undesirable. Members estimated a vinyl banner would cost in the order of $100 and agreed to look for city funding or reimbursements if needed; Victoria said she would gather vendor quotes and circulate a mock-up. Several members volunteered to staff the table in two-hour shifts; Drew Epping (urban forest planner) said the tree board booth will be adjacent to the city booth and that he will attend the full event.
The board directed the Green Fair volunteers to finalize interactive components and to confirm layout, supplies and printed materials in the next week to 10 days so orders can arrive in time.
Ending: Volunteers and staff will finalize the banner design, engagement materials and shift schedule by email; Coutos will circulate design proofs and vendor quotes, and Elizabeth will provide the high-resolution logo file.
