ARB to draft consolidated comments on Fall Hill Avenue Medical Historic District nomination

The Fredericksburg Architectural Review Board agreed to prepare a consolidated comment letter on the proposed Fall Hill Avenue Medical Historic District National Register nomination and encouraged members and the public to attend a Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) public meeting.
Denae Peckler of Historic Fredericksburg, Inc. (HFI) testified during general public comments that HFI supports the nomination and offered targeted suggestions: confirming construction dates for the Medical Arts Building and doctors' offices and urging the inclusion of the Fredericksburg Public Health Center (4350? Street) in the nomination because of its medical‑history associations and local architectural significance. Peckler said HFI would forward additional archival material to staff.
Chair Helen Ross asked staff to coordinate a consolidated letter from the ARB to be submitted before the next Board of Historic Resources meeting and asked for volunteers to draft it. Kate Schwartz recommended a single, consolidated ARB letter and offered staff support. ARB member Kelly Penick volunteered to take the lead on drafting and suggested the draft be distributed for review and discussed at the ARB work session later in the month. The board set a target to finalize comments before the DHR board meeting in March.
The ARB also reminded the public of the DHR-hosted public meeting at the Dorothy Hart Community Center on the coming Thursday at 6 p.m. to receive comment on the proposed district.
Next steps: Penick and at least one colleague to draft a consolidated ARB comment letter; staff will circulate the draft and the board will review it at a work session before submitting comments to DHR.
