Needham History Center seeks $46,007 for improved artifact storage

CPC members said the History Center has previously received CPC support: town meeting appropriated $25,000 in 2012 to hire an archivist and another $25,000 in 2018 to continue cataloging. Harrop said the Center now has a staffed archivist and is seeking targeted investments to improve on-site storage capacity so collections remain accessible to researchers.
Finance Committee members asked for a breakdown of the $46,007.12 figure into shelving, dehumidification, and contingency; Harrop said he did not have the detailed line-by-line numbers on hand but offered to provide them. He said the shelving would likely be ordered from a standard supplier and that the project is intended to keep material accessible rather than move collections off-site.
The CPC noted the request falls under the historic-preservation category of the CPA and that the project is largely a single‑year, one‑off capacity improvement for the museum.
