The Alexandria Planning Commission on March 4 unanimously elected Commissioner Melissa McMahon as chair and Commissioner Stephen Koenig as vice chair for one-year terms.
Commissioner Stephen Koenig nominated Melissa McMahon for chair, praising her knowledge of planning and development and “the integrity of our civic discourse.” Commissioner Koenig’s nomination was seconded; the chair vote passed unanimously. Afterward, Commissioner McMahon opened nominations for vice chair and Commissioner Brown nominated Koenig, saying she believed he was “the best qualified among us to assume that position.” The vice chair vote also passed unanimously.
The votes took place at the start of the commission’s regular meeting and were procedural steps that set leadership for the year. The newly elected chair, Commissioner Melissa McMahon, then presided over the remainder of the election items and the meeting’s business.
Commission leadership changes will remain in effect for one year unless the commission takes further action.
The remainder of the meeting proceeded with hearings, public comment, and multiple land-use decisions.
