Town selects Chad Lafever sculpture "Where Is My Mind?" for temporary library plaza installation

The council voted to accept the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Commission’s recommendation to install Chad Lafever’s bronze sculpture Where Is My Mind? on the library plaza as the temporary public art piece for the year.
Clayton Reardon presented the PRCC recommendation and showed renderings of the sculpture in the plaza. The piece is approximately nine feet tall including base (about 6 feet for the bronze figure plus a 34–36 inch base) and staff said their intended orientation is so the sculpture faces the library for easy visitor access. Reardon said the PRCC received 13 public comments during the review; most favored the selection though a few commenters said it felt out of place.
Councilmembers discussed size, orientation and lighting. Staff said the last temporary installation required about three to four weeks to site and bolt down, and that temporary solar lighting was available but the town does not have permanent plaza lighting specifically installed for art pieces. Reardon said staff will work with building safety and the artist on anchor specifications and permitting.
The council approved the PRCC recommendation by voice vote; staff will coordinate installation logistics with the artist and return with any necessary permitting details.
