The Westfield Parks and Recreation Board approved a master services agreement with Rent.Fun LLC to pilot a self-service, solar-powered kayak rental station at Simon Moon Park’s new lake.
Under the one-time $20,000 agreement, Rent.Fun (a sister company of Tandem Mobility) will install a locker station containing four lockers; each will hold a kayak, a paddle and a life jacket. Staff said users can scan a QR code to rent equipment; the company’s materials cited about $15 per hour as a typical rate. The pilot is timed to coincide with the park’s upcoming opening in April.
Chris said the vendor provides kayak-share services through Rent.Fun and related bike-share services through Tandem Mobility, which operates in Carmel and other Central Indiana communities. Caitlin, city legal counsel, reviewed and negotiated several contract edits with Rent.Fun before the agreement was brought to the board, staff said.
A motion to approve the master services agreement passed on roll call with Curtis Baumgartner, Julia Germer and the chair recorded as yes; the motion carried. The director and city legal counsel were authorized to take actions necessary to complete the contracting process.
Ending: Staff said the pilot will allow the city to test demand for a self-service watercraft rental amenity; any longer-term continuation or expansion would return to the board for additional approvals.
