Mobile County Commission reads multiple contracts, bonds and sponsorships; some items discussed and one alcohol-license vote postponed

The Mobile County Commission on March 6 reviewed and acted on a lengthy consent and contracts list that included contract amendments, sponsorship agreements, grant renewals, bond resolutions and right-of-way easements.

Items read to the commission included a recommendation to rent two ES&S DS200 voting machines to the City of Semmes for municipal elections, sponsorship agreements with community organizations, an amendment to increase a Gulf Coast Explorium (doing business as Gulf Coast Explorium Science Center) exhibit contract from $75,000 to $90,000, and multiple grant-renewal submissions for AmeriCorps Seniors programs.

The commission also reviewed procurement and construction items, including a change order that reduced a Cornerstone Detention Products contract by $30,000 for inspection and intercom testing at Metro Jail facilities, a rejection of bids for temporary HVAC/heating/ventilation for Metro Jail (bid rejection listed), and a contract award to Turner Wilson Fence Company for Escataba Hollow Park to install 2,500 linear feet of six-foot chain-link fence with barbed wire for $67,500. County project staff explained the barbed wire was proposed because of trespassing and aggressive-stray-dog problems on the park’s boundary; staff described the installation as a deterrent and said the specification was residential-grade chain link with barbed wire intended to address security concerns.
