District reports East Blos construction on schedule; Savannah High fields remain affected by flooding

Renovations to the Early Learning Center (Henderson), large re‑roofing projects (Johnson, Hurd), HVAC upgrades, and the alternative education center at the former Mercer School were described in detail.
Board members asked for better access to detailed schedules and spreadsheets. Dr. Hoskins Brown requested a readable PDF of the project schedule; staff agreed to provide the spreadsheet. Miss Grabowski and others raised coordination issues for summer gym and athletic use while work proceeds.
Savannah High athletic fields were repeatedly discussed. Staff and Dr. Denise Watts said flooding and proximity to the river remain obstacles; work to get the softball field playable was prioritized, with baseball targeted next season. Staff said alternative locations are being arranged for displaced games, and Mister Sanders (referenced in the discussion) helps coordinate relocations.
Other points: board members urged the district to salvage and donate usable furniture from school moves rather than discarding it; staff said salvage efforts exist but storage and logistics create challenges. Staff also noted substantial roofing, playground and netting projects planned across campuses and said Islands and Woodville Tompkins will receive major HVAC work this summer.
