Dr. Chris Covino, superintendent of La Grange SD 102, told the school board the district will continue to protect student and staff information and follow the law as federal policy changes. “We are still in the business of teaching all students, of protecting all students, of providing an education to all students regardless of whatever their nationality or immigration status may be,” Covino said.
Covino said the district will “stay in control and be in control of what we can control and, follow the law and protect our kids and our staff at all costs.” He also reminded the board that conferences are scheduled for Friday and that district leaders are preparing a curriculum newsletter to summarize recent work and presentations.
The superintendent said the district will begin hiring for the 2025–26 school year earlier than in past years because the labor market is “competitive” for hard-to-fill positions. “We will have the vast majority of our positions for next year, due to retirements, resignations, and or just a little bit of growth, published, on Tuesday,” Covino said, and asked the community to spread the word about openings.
No formal board action on privacy policy or hiring timelines was taken at the meeting. The superintendent’s comments were delivered as part of the superintendent’s report; board members asked no formal questions that resulted in motions or votes.
District officials also noted a separate curriculum newsletter will be published next week with highlights from tonight’s presentations and other updates.
