Raleigh City Council on March 11 voted to schedule evening public hearings April 1 on four items recommended by the Planning Commission, including a rezoning request for 1400 Edwards Mill Road, referred to in staff materials as the Lenovo Center.
Bynum Walter of Raleigh Planning and Development told council the Lenovo Center request would rezone a site from Commercial Mixed Use with a 12-story height limit to a planned development district, a custom zoning designation under which the applicant defines specific regulations. Walter said the Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval and found the request consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan future land use map.
Councilors also scheduled public hearings for a rezoning on Litchford Road and two map/condition changes on Pearl Road. Councilor Harrison asked for additional transportation context and requested the Transportation and Transit Committee meet March 27 to discuss broader transportation issues in the area, including Blue Ridge Road changes and the forthcoming traffic impact analysis tied to the 1400 Edwards Mill application. Kenneth Ritchie with the Transportation Department said the TIA for the Lenovo rezoning would be specific to that application; staff cautioned that the March 27 committee meeting might not have all TIA materials available but agreed to provide context on ongoing projects.
Council approved the scheduling motion unanimously.
