Loudon selectmen approve 13-ton road ban, update municipal welfare guidelines and OK emergency invoice

The Loudon Board of Selectmen voted on several administrative items at its March 4 meeting, approving a temporary 13-ton weight limit for town roads, updating municipal welfare guidelines and accepting an emergency-service invoice.

The board voted to publish public notice under RSA 231:193 to post a 13-ton weight limit on town roads beginning Wednesday, March 5, 2025, “until further notice.” The motion was made and seconded; Selectmen voiced approval and the chair declared the motion passed.

The board also approved an update to the Town of Loudon Welfare Office municipal welfare guidelines, amended March 4, 2025. The guidelines were revised to align with relevant state RSA updates and to update benefit figures used by the welfare office. Selectmen noted the rent figure for two people in the guidelines was increased from the outdated figure of roughly $600–$700 to about $1,600 to reflect current costs.

The board accepted an invoice from Leonard Plumbing and Heating for an emergency call to repair Charlie’s barn; the contractor charged $0 for the labor and parts for that call, and the board approved the invoice as presented.

Earlier in the meeting the consent agenda was approved by voice vote. The board also announced town calendar items: candidate night on Wednesday, March 5 at 6 p.m.; the Merrimack Valley School District meeting on March 6; elections on March 11 (polls open 7 a.m.–7 p.m.) and town meeting on Saturday, March 15 at 9 a.m.

During public comment, Amy Griffin of 7193 Shade Road criticized a recent local Democratic Party meeting involving school-board candidates and said she had emailed the state commissioner of education about district budget issues.

The meeting later moved to nonpublic session for personnel matters under RSA 91-A at 6:32 p.m.
