County agrees to accept deed for Paw Paw River kayak launch site for $1

The Van Buren County Committee of the Whole voted on Feb. 25 to accept a warranty deed from Jason Meacham of Meacham Properties LLC transferring land for a kayak launch on the Paw Paw River in Hartford Township for a purchase price of $1.
Lisa Ransler, Community Services Director, said the Parks Commission has pursued the project for several years, secured a grant for an Americans with Disabilities Act‑compliant kayak launch, completed a survey and split, and is ready to accept the property. "We have obtained the grant. It's been accepted. We've done the survey. We've done the split, and now we're ready to accept the property and just need approval from the county commission to initiate the deed," Ransler said.
A committee member confirmed deed restrictions: the property must remain a kayak launch and, under trust fund requirements, be guaranteed for a minimum of 40 years. The committee approved a motion to accept the warranty deed for $1. Commissioners who spoke praised Meacham Properties for community support.
