Alma commission approves $90,900 feasibility study for new Lift Station 16 on Michigan Avenue

The Alma City Commission approved a $90,900 request for purchase to Wade Trim Incorporated to conduct a feasibility study for a new sanitary sewer lift station on Michigan Avenue west of Pennsylvania Avenue.

City Manager Eric (first name only in the record) told commissioners the study will evaluate the proposed Lift Station 16, model flows from neighborhoods and industrial users, and include additional modeling for future development at Hoffman Road. "This is one of the pump stations we've been talking about for quite a while," Eric said, adding the study will include a significant flow study to size the station correctly now and for future demand.

Jay Pringle, public services director, said the project is for a brand-new lift station on the north edge of King Park and that there would be no decommissioning of existing facilities. "This will be an addition. There's no decommissioning," Pringle said. Pringle also said the study will collect flow data for approximately six months to capture highs, lows and average flows that will inform later engineering and design work.

Eric told commissioners the city recently learned that Greater Bradstreet received extra funding from the state's strategic site readiness program; a portion of those funds could be applied to engineering and predevelopment work at Hoffman Road and would reduce the amount the city needs to spend on some follow-up studies. He said staff expects to return with an additional request for proposals for further work after initial modeling.

The motion to approve the Wade Trim purchase order carried on a voice vote. No individual roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript.
