Commission approves property tax abatement after house fire

City Assessor Hirschfeld told the commission that a fire on March 3, 2023, affected the property identified as parcel 0390‑4700‑0100 and that the owner’s insurance indicated a total loss. Hirschfeld recommended reducing the assessed value of the remaining improvements and land to $80,400 to reflect the damage and to remove the remainder of the previous improvement value from the assessment roll.
President Decker asked whether the assessor's recommendation was to change the value to $80,400; Hirschfeld confirmed that was the recommendation. After brief procedural questions, Commissioner Bair moved to approve the abatement; Commissioner Frederick seconded. The commission recorded a unanimous roll‑call vote in favor and approved the abatement.
The commission’s action changes the taxable assessment for the property to reflect the reduced value of the lot and remaining improvements as described by the assessor. No additional conditions were placed on the abatement during the meeting.
