District reports CTE growth: welding teacher hired, campus programs expand and CTE marketplace planned April 12

District staff presented an update on Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, reporting increased on-campus participation, a newly hired welding instructor and plans for a community CTE marketplace in April.
CTE presenter Mr. Cox told the board that about 100 students attend East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) programs while “more importantly, we have over a hundred that stay here on campus,” and that preliminary registrations for next year show roughly 310 students signed up for CTE programs. Cox said the district has hired a welding teacher and is pursuing a sports-medicine instructor to meet student interest. "Programs are growing... sky's the limit," Cox said.
Cox described plans for an April 12 CTE prospector marketplace at the high school to showcase student programs and connect students with local businesses; the district also is preparing students for industry certification tests over the next two months. Board members praised the expansion and asked staff to report back with numbers showing how many students will remain on campus versus attend EVIT programs.
Superintendent Dr. Pappalardo told the board the program “is working as we designed it to work,” adding the district’s intent to continue growing CTE offerings to provide career pathways for students.
