Committee continues Early Childhood Leadership Commission via SB 177 and sends it to appropriations
Summary
Senate Bill 177, a sunset continuation for the Early Childhood Leadership Commission (ECLC), was advanced unanimously from the Education Committee to the Appropriations Committee. Supporters said the ECLC provides cross-agency advice during early implementation of the Department of Early Childhood.
The Senate Education Committee voted unanimously to advance Senate Bill 177, which continues the Early Childhood Leadership Commission (ECLC), to the Appropriations Committee.
Senator Bridal, a sponsor, described long experience working with the ECLC and praised the commission's role in bringing multiple perspectives to early childhood policy. Senator Kim (co-sponsor) said the Department of Regulatory Agencies recommended continuation and noted the commission's advisory role early in implementation of the Department of Early Childhood.
Sue Renner, co-chair of the ECLC, testified in support and described the commission's composition (21 members representing state agencies, parents, school districts, preschools, childcare providers, counties, early childhood councils and public/private organizations) and the commission's work on subcommittees covering home visiting, early childhood mental health, educator investments and related data and funding issues. Committee members raised no amendments and moved the bill forward to appropriations.
