Hinsdale approves water-main interconnect with Burr Ridge for backup supply

Trustees approved awarding a construction contract and related engineering services to build a water-main interconnect with the Village of Burr Ridge that officials said will provide a full-time backup supply in the event Hinsdale—s primary source is disrupted.
"We're looking to award a bid to H Linden and Sons for the construction of a water main interconnect with the Village of Burr Ridge in the amount of $406,000," a trustee said during discussion. The board was told the village budgeted $500,000 for the work and that Hinsdale will be the lead contractor and then bill Burr Ridge for its share.
Officials said Hinsdale—s share of the construction cost will be 66% and Burr Ridge—s share will be 33%. Trustees also approved a construction-observation engineering contract with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly not to exceed $49,000; the engineering cost will likewise be split between the two villages.
Trustees noted the interconnect provides an alternate source to Hinsdale—s current supply and said the project was negotiated with Burr Ridge so both communities share costs. Village staff described the interconnect as important because a recent short interruption in DuPage-supplied water highlighted the value of a redundant source.
The construction and engineering contracts were placed on the consent agenda and approved by the board.
