Votes at a glance: board approves routine minutes, administration, finance and personnel; expels student under state code

The Lincoln County Board of Education handled several routine approvals and one disciplinary action at its Jan. 28 meeting. The actions below were recorded on the public record and carried by recorded voice votes.

- Approval of minutes (Jan. 21). Motion to approve made by Wilson; second by Burns. Vote: 4–0 in favor.

- Approval of administration items. Motion to approve made by Wilson; second by Cartwright. Vote: 4–0 in favor.

- Approval of finance items. Motion to approve made by Cartwright; second by Wilson. Vote: 4–0 in favor.

- Approval of personnel items. Motion to approve (mover not specified on the record); second by Wilson. Vote: 4–0 in favor.

- Executive session. Burns moved to go into executive session to discuss a student-discipline matter and a possible discussion with Department of Education representatives; a second was recorded. The board recessed into executive session at 6:55 p.m.; recorded vote to enter executive session was 4–0.

- Return to open session. The board returned to regular session on a motion by Wilson and a second by Burns at 7:58 p.m.; vote to return was 4–0.

- Student expulsion. After executive session, the board voted to expel “Student A” from Lincoln County Schools. The motion was made by Wilson and seconded by Cartwright. The board cited West Virginia Code 18A-5-1a, 61-2-7-2 and West Virginia Department of Education policy 43-73. Vote: 4–0 in favor; the motion passed.
