District reports midyear LCAP progress; chronic absenteeism reduced by half

A district staff member presented a midyear update on the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), reporting progress across the plan’s goals and actions and highlighting areas of improvement and next steps.
The presenter said the district has completed or is making progress on all 18 actions across the LCAP’s four goal areas. In the “thriving students” goal, staff reported a roughly 50% reduction in the number of students designated as chronically absent compared with the prior year; staff said all nine schools showed improvement and a new attendance process and manual were rolled out.
Under “empowered educator,” the presentation noted implementation of a teacher advisory group and listening sessions across all nine schools to bring teacher and classified‑staff input into decision making. For “engaged families,” the district said Lynette White will join as communications director and will present on district communications at a future meeting.
In the finances area, staff reported progress toward competitive compensation and said a tentative settlement with the California School Employees Association (CSEA) will be presented as an action item later in the meeting. The presenter shared that the district will bring a settlement proposal for the classified employees’ group and invited board questions on the attached midyear report and executive summary.
No formal board action was taken on the midyear LCAP update; the item was an informational report and staff moved on to related action items on contracts and bargaining later in the agenda.
