Senator Clark presented the resolution on the floor, describing Huckabee’s public service and advocacy for U.S.–Israel relations. “I can't think of anybody that would possibly be better,” Senator Clark said while reading the resolution’s findings and urging passage.
The resolution cites Governor Huckabee’s three‑term tenure as Arkansas governor, his background as a Baptist minister and his long record of advocacy for Israel. After the resolution was offered, the presiding officer called for the ayes and the Senate adopted the resolution by voice vote.
Former Governor Mike Huckabee addressed the Senate after the resolution was adopted. Huckabee said he had visited Israel “for 52 years,” recounting a first trip in 1973, and called his nomination "a calling" he did not expect but accepted. "Let me be very clear. I was not looking for a job in the federal government when the president called," Huckabee said. He thanked the senators for their affirmation and said he and his wife were preparing to relocate if confirmed.
The chamber also recognized members of Huckabee’s family in the galleries before the resolution was presented.
