Taos County opens Lodgers Tax grant applications through March 31

Taos County is accepting applications for its Lodgers Tax grant program through March 31, county staff said, with a second application window on Sept. 15. The program provides reimbursable funding for advertising, publicity and promotional activities designed to support tourism and visitor experiences in Taos County.
The Lodgers Tax grant aims to promote the county’s cultural events, natural attractions and visitor-oriented programming, the staff member said. Past grantees cited in the announcement included DALE at Keitas Solar Center, High Road Artisans and the Taos Fall Arts Festival.
Applicants must have a federal employer identification number (EIN) and a New Mexico CRS (combined reporting system) number; organizations without those identifiers may apply through a fiscal sponsor that does. Individuals and sole proprietors are ineligible. The county emphasized that grant awards are paid on a reimbursement basis: recipients must submit documentation to receive funds.
Allowed uses are limited to advertising, publicity and promotion; the county listed several categories that are ineligible for reimbursement, including supplies, postage, web development, tours, talent fees, building rentals, food and beverage, gifts or cash prizes, event production costs and other operational expenses. Reimbursement requests will be accepted quarterly; all reimbursement requests must be submitted by May 15, 2026.
To apply, prospective grantees must complete an online application and submit any required fiscal-sponsorship agreements or temporary-permit and business-registration documents. The county’s review board will score applications and make funding recommendations to the County Commission using criteria that include program or event type, facility, audience, alignment with Taos County Lodgers Tax goals, value to the county, innovation and budget.
County staff encouraged eligible organizations to file applications ahead of the deadlines.
