Committee forwards one-year fuel contract with Dawson Thompson Oil for Public Works complex

The Huntington Public Works Committee voted Tuesday to forward to full city council a proposed one-year contract with Dawson Thompson Oil to provide fuel service for the Public Works Complex at 800 Virginia Avenue.
City purchasing staff told the committee the city received a single proposal from Dawson Thompson Oil and that a city review committee determined the proposal “did meet the needs of the city.”
According to the memorandum presented to the committee, Dawson Thompson would provide on-site tanks and monitoring equipment at its own expense; the initial monitoring equipment cost is listed as $5,684.10. The vendor would supply fuel at a markup of 0.205¢ per gallon above the wholesale price for the Ash and Charleston region. The agreement would run one year and automatically renew for four additional one-year terms on each anniversary unless canceled by either party. The contract expense is to be paid from the Public Works Department general fund and the Sanitary and Trash fund budgets previously approved by city council.
“Mister Bates” said the purchasing division issued a request for proposals with proposals due Jan. 8 and received one submission from Dawson Thompson Oil of Huntington. “The committee determined that Dawson Thompson's proposal did meet the needs of the city,” he said.
A council member moved that the committee forward the item to full council with a favorable recommendation; the motion passed by voice vote and Miss Walling agreed to sponsor the item before full council.
The committee did not vote to execute the contract; the measure will go to the full city council for final action. The memorandum and all supporting documentation were included with the committee packet.
