Huntington City Council took the following formal actions at its Jan. 27 meeting (voice votes unless noted):
- Resolution 2025-R-01 — Authorize the mayor to contract for two Ford F-250 XL trucks for the Huntington Fire Department. Council approved the resolution. City staff said the successful bidder was University Ford and quoted a combined vehicle price of $108,866; staff said additional equipment (radios, lights, sirens and markings) will be installed in-house and they estimate about $20,000 to $22,000 per vehicle for equipment and outfitting.
- Resolution 2025-R-02 — Authorize the mayor to enter into a contract for roof replacement at the Jean Dean Public Safety Building. Council approved the resolution. Staff said the lowest bid for repairs was $28,171 and that funds will come from the Jean Dean Building Fund.
- Resolution 2025-R-03 — Authorize purchase of 15 Taser Model 7 devices and 90 cartridges from Axon Enterprise, Inc. Council approved the resolution. Huntington Police Chief Phil Watkins said the total cost will be $47,845.43 and that funding will come from a FY2022 Byrne JAG formula grant. Watkins said Axon is the sole-source provider of the equipment.
Other council actions:
- Ordinance 2024-O-41 (rezoning three parcels on the 1500 block of Ninth Avenue) — The council postponed the second reading indefinitely after hearing from nearby residents. Motion moved by Miss Lehman, second by Mr. Arthur; voice vote passed.
- Ordinance 2025-O-002 (right-of-way conveyance to West Virginia Division of Highways) — First reading presented and the item was advanced for further reading; no final vote taken.
- Ordinance 2025-O-003 (vacate/abandon alley in Gideon District at request of OEA Real Estate) — First reading presented and the item was advanced for further reading; appraisal reported at $2,100 and a check held in the city legal office pending approval.
- Sewer-usage ordinance 2025-O-006 — Withdrawn from the agenda and not considered.
