Planning staff outlines Phase 2 schedule for Land Development Code update and related public workshops

Planning staff told the City of Pensacola Planning Board on Feb. 11 that Phase 2 of the Land Development Code update will kick off with a week of outreach and meetings at the end of February, including a City Council special workshop and a series of public events.
"The soonest time we could find and get that going, is now Tuesday, February 25. So that's gonna be in this room," said Miss Cannon, describing a City Council workshop that will be followed by a public workshop Wednesday evening and an open-house session the next morning. Cannon said materials and press releases are being distributed and that the project website and survey are live to collect early input.
Cannon also said CivicCon will host a speaker, Rebecca Kick, director of community planning and economic development for the City of Kalamazoo, Michigan, who will speak Monday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Cannon described Kick as having experience in form-based code and in updating codes to meet housing and affordability goals.
Staff encouraged participation in an online survey tied to the project website and noted the project's comment-tracking process will route consultant responses into a central system. Cannon said the Housing Advisory Committee, the Environmental Advisory Board (EAB) and other boards are receiving updates and that an environmental coordinator in engineering will coordinate an upcoming EAB workshop to review Phase 1 stormwater and environmental recommendations.
No formal action was taken on Feb. 11; staff asked board members to participate in outreach and to encourage constituents to complete the survey and attend workshops.
