Paulding County School Board honors fire department for rapid East Paulding High School response

The Paulding County Board of Education unanimously approved a proclamation thanking the Paulding County Fire and Rescue Department for its response to a Feb. 11 fire at East Paulding High School and presented a partner-in-education sign to the department.
The Paulding County Board of Education on March 4 unanimously approved a proclamation expressing “deepest gratitude” to Chief Garrett Brubaker and the Paulding County Fire and Rescue Department for their response to a Feb. 11 fire at East Paulding High School.
The proclamation, read by Janice DeGaul during the board’s superintendent report, said the department “responded immediately and professionally, ensuring the safety of all individuals on campus and swiftly containing the fire,” and credited the rapid response with “minimal damage allowing students and staff to resume their school day with minimum disruption.”
Superintendent Barnett and Janice DeGaul invited Chief Brubaker, Deputy Chief Tim King, Deputy Chief Bridal Newsom and fire education specialist Jim Sprinkle to the dais. Barnett highlighted the department’s long-standing partnership with the district: officials said the department was founded in 1980, responds to more than 18,500 calls annually and has provided safety training to nearly 4,000 students and staff this school year. DeGaul read a list of school-centered activities performed by the department, including fire-extinguisher training for teachers, fire safety presentations for special needs students, college and career fairs, STEM events and summer camps.
The board presented the department with a partner-in-education sign to display at its facilities. Board member Fuller moved to approve the proclamation; Nolan seconded the motion, and the board voted unanimously to adopt it.
The superintendent’s remarks also thanked East Paulding High School administrators, maintenance and custodial staff for work to return the campus to normal operations and noted the district and partner organizations that supported recovery work.
No formal policy changes or follow-up actions were recorded; the proclamation will be presented to the Paulding County Fire and Rescue Department as a recognition item.
