Pensacola council approves park funding, grants and budget amendments in series of unanimous votes

Pensacola City Council on a series of unanimous votes approved a collection of resolutions, grant acceptances and related supplemental budget resolutions that the administration said will fund parks, public safety equipment and pedestrian projects.
The council adopted Resolution No. 2024-103 supporting a Florida state funding award through a Conservation Florida partnership for the Bay Bluffs Park revitalization project. Council member Brere clarified that Conservation Florida received the grant award and will pass the funds to the city under the partnership.
On transportation, the council adopted Resolution No. 2024-102 to apply for Florida Department of Transportation Transportation Alternatives Program funds to design and construct pedestrian facilities on North J Street and pedestrian and bicycle facilities on East Maxwell Street.
Public safety and technology funding approved included acceptance of a Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant for $13,703.42; acceptance and associated supplemental budgets for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grants for investigative technology (total amounts described on the agenda); and approval to accept a Florida Department of Law Enforcement drone replacement grant in the amount of $75,000 to replace drones not compliant with recent state procurement/security standards. The police chief told council the department already has FAA-trained pilots and that the grant is to replace devices that are not compliant with new vendor/security requirements.
The council also adopted a second-reading ordinance (No. 13-24) vacating portions of I Street and alleyways adjacent to 1000 West Moreno Street, the Baptist Hospital Legacy Campus, and authorized related actions. That ordinance passed on second reading without public speakers.
All items in this package passed by unanimous votes; most passed 7-0 with little or no debate. The council adopted the required supplemental budget resolutions to appropriate the granted funds.
