Committee approves consent resolutions, adopts second‑reading ordinance and confirms multiple appointments

The chair placed both resolutions on the consent calendar and the committee approved them by voice vote, recorded as 6–0 in favor.
On second reading the committee considered BL 20 25 7 54, an ordinance readopting the code of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, prepared by Metro Code Corporation and including supplements through Aug. 20, 2024. The committee voted to approve the ordinance on second reading (6–0 by voice vote) and moved it forward per the council’s procedural rules.
The committee took up a long series of board and commission matters. It interviewed and advanced nominees for the Advisory Committee on Transportation (see separate coverage) and approved appointments or reappointments across several bodies, including:
- Health and Education Facility Board nominee (Matt Wiltshire) — advanced by committee (6–0). - Advisory Committee on Transportation nominees (multiple; advanced to council for final confirmation on March 18). - Walk Bike/transportation‑related appointments and confirmations, including Wesley Smith (Walk Bike Nashville) and others — committee recommended council confirmation. - Reappointments and confirmations: Tim Garrett (CATV special committee reappointment), Carolyn B. Tucker (Emergency Communications District Board reappointment), Shauna Lynn Brandmeier (NECAT reappointment), and multiple other advisory appointments; individual motions recorded and advanced by the committee (votes ranged from 6–0 to 7–0 depending on attendance).
The committee also heard a proposed rule change to Rule 9 (sponsored by Councilmember Huffman) intended to change when items on first reading may be separated for individual votes. Committee members discussed potential unintended consequences and accepted a motion to defer the rule change one meeting so the sponsor can propose an amendment clarifying sponsor rights; the deferral passed by voice vote (7–0).
