The Collegedale City Commission voted unanimously Jan. 6 to approve purchase of two trucks for the Public Works Department, authorizing procurement under the state contract the city used to obtain lower pricing.
City staff said the original request proposed three vehicles but was amended to two — an F-150 and an F-350 — with the F-250 removed from the purchase. Public Works staff said the F-350 will replace a 2001 model that has about 186,000 miles, and the F-150 will be added to the fleet; an existing F-250 will be repurposed elsewhere in the city fleet.
Public Works staff described the department fleet as aging — an analysis presented at the meeting put the fleet's average age at about 15 years, with vehicles dating to 1997 and the early 2000s. Staff also said warranty work can be performed at any Ford dealer even though the vehicles were procured through the state contract holder in Murfreesboro.
Commissioners asked whether the new F-350 could be fitted with a snowplow; staff said not at this time but noted the department has other plow-equipped trucks, brine trucks and can modify equipment as needed. Commissioner comments also thanked Public Works for visible preparations such as brine solution and other winter readiness steps.
The motion to approve the purchase carried on a roll-call vote: Commissioners Baker, House and Johnson, Vice Mayor Sadler and Mayor Lloyd voted yes.
