Fruita staff brief council on planned building-code update, minor fee changes and county alignment

Dan Karas, planning director for the City of Fruita, and Mike Mossberg, Fruita building official, briefed council on a planned adoption of updated building codes and related fee adjustments.
Karas said the city intends to adopt the 2024 family of model building codes by reference, align energy code references with the 2021 energy code, and make local amendments to reflect Western Slope conditions. He told council the aim is to avoid surprises for local builders and homeowners by coordinating with Mesa County and the local builder advisory group.
