Public safety and outreach updates included the police department’s “Cops and Kids” reading program at CJ Hicks Elementary; the police chief and deputy chief participated and described the event as well received by students. City senior manager Cameron highlighted ongoing youth‑engagement efforts, noting a youth council meeting scheduled next Wednesday and a Front Porch discussion with Georgia Department of Transportation and public works staff to answer transportation questions.
The council also discussed upcoming events: the Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for March 22–24, a Spartan Race will take place the following weekend, and an annual saddle‑club horse show and consignment sale will bring visitors to the county. City staff announced a three‑concert summer series on Railroad Street (first show April 12 featuring the No Diggity Band; May 2 tribute to Bruno Mars; June 14 Prince tribute). The council said Red, White and Boom fireworks planning is ongoing; the fireworks display vendor and a memorandum of understanding with the Rockdale County Board of Education were separately approved at the meeting.
