The Conyers City Council on Wednesday approved a $30,000 contract with Southern Skye Fireworks to provide the city’s Red, White and Boom fireworks display and separately approved a memorandum of understanding with the Rockdale County Board of Education to host the July 3, 2025 event on Board of Education property.
City staff said the vendor is new this year and the price is higher than the prior year’s contract, but officials expect a larger show. “It’s between the city of Conyers and Southern Skye Fireworks in the amount of $30,000,” staff member Jennifer said during the meeting.
Councilmember Jared moved approval of the fireworks agreement and later moved approval of the MOU allowing the city to conduct the display on property owned by the Rockdale County Board of Education. Both motions received seconds and were carried by voice vote. The motions identified the display date as July 3, 2025, and named the Rockdale County Public Schools Administrative Office as the launch location for the fireworks display.
City staff clarified that contract terms are similar to previous years, including standard cancellation fees, and that the city holds insurance for the event. Council members noted the county school board is expected to take up the MOU at its March 20 meeting before full coordination is finalized.
The council did not read a roll-call vote on either item and did not provide a detailed vote tally on the record; the meeting transcript records the motions, seconds and that both motions “carry.”
